TALENTDISPLAY DISCUSSES HIS UPCOMING ALBUM, TALKING NICKI/REMY BEEF, 2CHAINZ AND MORE…
TalentDisplay confidently fuses old influences into his raw, modern sound, taking rap to a new intoxicating level. The Los Angeles rapper and songwriter TalentDisplay keeps a unique approach to hip-hop that incorporates the influence of fresh sounds, reality and assorted styles. TalentDisplay blasted on to the music scene in 2006 with his self-titled multi-lingual single. Since then, he has worked with superstar artists Fredro Starr and Ca$his, collaborated on pop, rap and R & B tracks while even spending some time working at Paramount assisting with songwriting and more. TalentDisplay uses the love and support of his fans whom he calls “DISPLAYERS” since they constantly show him love and provide him with the inspiration to create more and music.
Q: How are you Talent?
TalentDisplay: Man doing great, doing great. Shoutout to my DiSPLAYERS and Jamsphere for having me today.
Q: Let’s get to it. So, you’ve recently done something unusual for yourself and joined an online rap contest called “One Take Rap Contest” right?
TalentDisplay: I did, I did. I jumped in on it for fun and also for some promo for my upcoming street album which should be coming up next month. Me and my homie Menace who handled the visuals for it decided to have fun and join the competition. They haven’t decided who won yet and regardless, I appreciate the exposure. Shoutout to Futuristic & AKT Aktion for doing that. That’s a good look.
Q: You mentioned an upcoming album, what’s in store on there?
TalentDisplay: Well, I have a friends of mine as guest features on there which is exciting for me because of what it added to building this fun project. I’ll release the title and title track soon along with the whole thing probably, I just want to get some visuals done prior. Features on there include my dear Heath Ripplinger who also records me for the most part, also my peoples 2K West Ingrid Rayne, Ken Live, Kontious & Filthy One who provided a different flavor and provided a Spanish verse. Going to be fun playing with fire (laughs).
Q: How is the production looking like on there?
TalentDisplay: The production is bananas too! Very diverse, only one producer produced more than one track. The sound goes from Pop to Old School, all over the place on purpose.
Q: Speaking of ‘place’ Talent, how has your previous project “Different Place” been received?
TalentDisplay: Aw man, exceptional. In fact, I plan on shooting a vid for one of the tracks from that EP soon! Hope y’all DiSPLAYERS still bumping that one, it’s available on TalentDisplay.net while my official site TalentDisplay.com is being constructed.
Q: Let’s veer away from your own music and talk about some artists in the game. What do you think of, let’s say, 2Chainz as a rapper? What do you think about Nicki and Remy beefing?
TalentDisplay: I think he’s a fun mainstream rapper who is an absolute genius when it comes to marketing. It’s an element that must be added to the equation of a successful artist, especially given the game’s current state in this tech era. As far as Remy & Nicki beefing… man, it’s interesting… in a way, the online community seems to treat Remy as a Spartan… well… at the end of the Day, they lost, fight and all. Nicki responded lightly and it worked, easily. Would rather see them collab than beef, oh well. Shoutout to them girl though, they eating.
Q: A lot of rappers are entrepreneurial with their hustle. Any one you’d like to be signed to? Diddy or anything like that?
TalentDisplay: Developing myself as an artist, I’ve always wanted to be signed to Fif man (laughs) probably still. I love being independent and hustling for myself but there’s something about 50 Cent’s mind, hustle and perception that I absolutely feel places him in another realm compare to these other dudes. Him, and Jay of course, I’ve seen the J. Cole pattern of success as an artist, and yea… it’s all about those two as far as hip-hop bosses to me.
Q: What if another artist wants to have you featured on their song and such? What would be the best way to reach out to you for a hook or a 16 and stuff?
TalentDisplay: I’m constantly on all my social media sites, especially Twitter. If they got a dope cut, hit me up! I’m always down.
Q: How do you describe your sound as an artist?
TalentDisplay: I’d say more than anything my sound is diverse. I can take it and can truly do a lot with it. I take a lot of pride in my range because it took a lot of hard work, a lot of time and all that. Gotta be proud of what I make when I make it, means a lot.
Q: Before I let you go TalentDisplay, are there any mottos you live by? Any advice for your fans whom you call ‘DiSPLAYERS’ out there?
TalentDisplay: Oh yeah… (pause) one would be “Keep Pushing No Matter What” while reminding the people that “Loyalty Is Everything” definitely.
Q: TalentDisplay, thank you for your time.
TalentDisplay: Thank you, it’s always a pleasure.
