Tommy Francisco is a passionate pop and soul singer-songwriter, dynamic and talented enough to tackle a crossover genre and style marked by some of the greatest singers in recorded music history. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, he has overcome a slew of trials and tribulations on his journey of becoming a recording artist. At the age of 3, Tommy’s biological father was murdered which left him to be raised by his then, single mother. During that time, Tommy had a keen interest in music. Though he received a football scholarship, he ultimately turned it down to pursue his true passion, music.
“Best Thing” produced by Mantra, is Tommy’s 3rd single release. Tommy Francisco’s soulful voice, impressive vocal range, and ability to mesmerize his listener and take them on his journey, make his latest offering everything you could have hoped for!
Many of the pillars of Mantra’s production stands as far more than just a testament to the singer. Instrumentally, it has depth and nuance, each instrument individually interesting but collectively grander than their parts. It is its own tapestry, not simply a canvas justifying a singer showcase.
“Best Thing” is much more than a singer showcase, and Tommy Francisco’s soaring voice fits inside it like a glove, as the singer slickly weaves in and out of his falsetto, making a great impact on the listener. In relation to his previous releases, Tommy now sings from a stronger, more assured position, which is reflected in the music.
The single evidences the singer’s growing confidence, his voice distinctive and powerful enough to command the spotlight in every bar, without the need to turn toward overdone vocal pyrotechnics.
The boldest example of his vocal strength can be heard as he exquisitely draws out the notes of the pre-chorus and chorus, extending them in a way that other singers would have done through technological tricks or outright showmanship. Tommy’s delicately swooping vocal twists make his singing seem even more poignant. The track brings emotion and powerful passion that is guaranteed to make anyone who listens, feel every lyric.
“Best Thing” sees Tommy Francisco contemplating a situation of unrequited love: “On the couch when I watch her sleep. Here with her is enough for me. Gave her love but she’s wanting more. And when she wakes I know she’s gonna leave.”
This is a very relatable track, and it’s delicate in the way that it sounds as though Tommy is singing right into your ear. “Best Thing” goes a step further than its predecessors in establishing Tommy Francisco’s talents as a singer and songwriter.
And though all excellent, his mature performance here is leagues ahead of what he was doing previously. In essence, the track feels ways more cathartic and personal compared to anything else he has done. And this is when he sounds at his best!
