Jeff II: “Sleepless” – the hybrid multi-musical universe of the future!
Jeff II is a French guitar player, composer and music producer based out of Los Angeles, California. Born in Paris in a family of music lovers he started playing the guitar at the age of 13 after listening to Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Axis Bold as Love’ and Guns n’ Roses ‘Appetite for Destruction’. After graduating from High School he started playing live with several French rock band,s performing in some of the biggest venues in Paris such as ‘L’Olympia’ and the ‘Bataclan Theater’. Jeff II decided to relocate to the US in 2016, and has been working full time as a session, and touring guitar player, in Los Angeles. The multi-talented artist also set his mind to learning the basics of music production, and gained an interest in electronic music along the way.
He applied these crafts to his original music creations and came up with his debut single, “Sleepless”, which was released in July 2018. Lending to his unique EDM and Hard Rock crossover sound, the single is the perfect lead-up to his upcoming album “Until The Morning Light”, set to drop by the end of the year.
Jeff II merges virtuosic guitar gymnastics, high-octane EDM rhythms, and rock star flamboyance in his performance on “Sleepless”. He comes across as an artist that thinks outside of the box, not interested in doing anything half-assed, but preferring instead to immerse himself in a hands-on approach to every detail of the song.
We can see him banging the drums, thumping the basslines, hitting the keys and twisting those guitars strings until they scream. And the results are one of a kind. It’s clear that beneath the fast salvos of guitar notes and driving rhythmic arrangements, that Jeff II retains an immense understanding of music.
“Sleepless” has little in the way of vocals, though when voices do appear, they are certainly substantial, adding an extra flavor and dimension to the track. This, together with Jeff II’s exciting mix of chunky and warped rhythms hold down the fort as the artist’s unbelievably deft lead guitar twists in and out of the song.
Fans of high-energy rock and fast paced dance music will not be left wanting with this track. “Sleepless” has a progressive electronic-fusion meets Satriani vibe, and is significant for its monstrous display of guitar chops.
Jeff II is an artist who is trying to find new territory on an instrument that can be described as being infinite in its creative potential. The guitar has successful crossed into almost any genre you can think of with stunning results.
EDM presents the final frontier to be conquered, as it represents a series of genres and sub-genres historically hostile towards the electric six-stringed instrument. I can’t remember any rock guitarists who have attempted to challenge the EDM sonic barriers with such a bold statement as “Sleepless”.
Now Jeff II makes the impossible, seem possible. And it’s even more vibrant and cohesive than I imagined it could be. “Sleepless” is a tantalizing glimpse into the hybrid multi-musical universe of the future, where anything and everything is possible, and will exist alongside the sharply focused vision that Jeff II delivers in all of its glory today!
