Nina Paolicelli: “Look” evokes a sense of deep reflection

Nina Paolicelli is an American singer, songwriter and philanthropist, originally from Rochester, NY. In 2013, in the wake of an abusive relationship, Nina’s mother moved both Nina and her brother to Los Angeles, where Nina was able to pursue her dream of becoming a singer.

ninap-lookShe has just released her powerful and moving single, “Look” which uncovers the issues related to domestic violence.  As a young child, Nina was a silent victim to the abuse her mother endured, so the song was written from a child’s perspective. Nina hopes that “Look” will motivate and encourage sufferers to not accept abuse anymore and say “No More”.

Nina Paolicelli has a smoky richness to her voice that just takes you to places far away and paints vivid images in your mind.  Her vocals are clear, strong and somehow even confident, within the confines of this rather bitter and sad ballad.

You’ll want more of her as soon as the song ends. Minimal but rich-sounding, with her voice front and center, “Look” is a solid, mature and profound offering from a classy singer. Her music isn’t just a onetime listen – her music feels timelessly grand.

The power of her voice has only been magnified by the lyrics in “Look”, which cut straight to the heart when Nina talks about the indifference, even of her mom’s family, in the face of her abuse:

“They said yeah he hurt you, well yeah he pushes you down

But look at what he gave you, don’t be so ungrateful

They told her yeah he yells at you,

well yeah he dragged you up the stairs while your kids were watching

But look at all the riches, look at what you’re live in”

This is beautiful, heartfelt music that we can all relate to. Accompanied by a simple piano arrangement, Nina Paolicelli has a way of grabbing one by the heart and evoking a sense of deep reflection.  It’s so refreshing to hear a talented young artist performing a song of sincere substance with such poignant and soulful artistry.

Every once in a while an artist comes along that reminds us of the vulnerability and frailty of our existence, yet at the same time inspires us with the beauty and strength of the human spirit. Nina Paolicelli is one of those few artists – she refreshes the music industry with a breathtaking voice and performance that produces a vibrantly dexterous sound all her own.
