The Blue Danes: “Invisible and Untouchable” delivers a phenomenal listening experience!
For their album, “Invisible and Untouchable”, The Blue Danes have developed a sound all their own that only comes from musicians playing together as a true collective – FRANK HANSEN (Composer, Guitar, Keyboards, Synths, Vocals), SKIP LOWE (Drummer/Percussionist) and SHAUN COURBAT (Bass, Backing Vocals) share the same musical goal and the song is more important than the individual participants. No two ways about it. The arrangements are exceptional as is the interplay between the band members. The musicianship is stellar, which is a must if you are to be a success at this level.
However, two things separate The Blue Danes from the pack: 1.) Frank Hansen is an excellent singer and 2.) The extremely high artistic level of their songs. The highlights are many as “Invisible and Untouchable” plays like a classic with its string lines and backing vocals. This album is also easily listenable; the songs do not require you to study them to appreciate the musicianship like so many other albums of this caliber.
The arrangements are complex and lusciously layered, but seamlessly produced for subtle sonic impacting. It’s the melody and harmony that makes a first impression on the casual listener, leaving the music connoisseur to slowly unravel the arrangements, if he or she has the need to dig a little deeper.
And if you dare to dig a little deeper on songs such as “Walls Are Falling Down”, “Remember”, “Hurricane”, “Wings” and “Beautiful And Sad”, you will discover the varying tones and timbres, the variety and pacing – and that not one single note or sound misses its mark.
I listen very closely, and my senses respond well to music like this that manages to fuse passion with true professionalism. Making good music is not just a question of artistic creativity, but how effectively a band or artist is able to translate that creativity to an audience. Like truly great bands before them, this is where The Blue Danes excel best.
This is a mature and authentic set of performances by a band that shows both their high-level musicianship and the raw emotion of their songs.
From the opening mid-tempo pop beat of “Consequence”, to the closing rock crunch of “We Bond As Killers”, this is a complete triumph of music. But to be honest, this is what I expected from the minute I saw the album cover artwork. It became quickly clear that The Blue Danes leave nothing to chance.
Every beat, every strum and every lyric is methodically calculated. I don’t know what greater accolade to heap on these 13 songs than to say it makes me believe in today’s artists again. I have been listening to music from the past over the last 6 months or so, not being able to find anything new that really strikes my fancy but then this drops into my lap.
Actually everything I just got hold of in the last few days has been overall really good, but “Invisible and Untouchable” was the crown jewel of the batch. If your tastes fall anywhere between Pop, Americana, Indie-Rock, or Alt-Country then you want this album, and you want it right this minute…
