Drone Flesh: “Potential Paradox” – bass-driven sinister sounds
Swiss producer Drone Flesh has established himself as one of the scene’s most promising low-end warriors within the broad spectrum of bass music producers around today. Garnering some serious attention last year for his harrowing, gruesome brand of blended dubstep, techno and complextro, Drone Flesh’s penetrating sound is deftly represented on his new EP release, “Potential Paradox”. And although Drone Flesh has proven his abilities in his genre already, he showcases noteworthy proficiencies in other sub-genres found on his latest release. From heavy doses of grumbling drum n’ bass to throbbing electro-house tracks, “Potential Paradox” is a haunting showcase of Drone Flesh’s unmistakable sound.
The EP opens up with “Earquake” a lacerating drum n’ bass cut, that introduces the release in full force. The wiry synth arrangement matched with booming drum work cruises at a quick tempo and foreshadows the wild ride Drone Flesh is about to take us on.
“Potential Paradox” is a hybrid fusion of house and techno inspired sounds. The tune is a meshing of Drone Flesh’s distinct, gargling wobble with carefully placed, subtle sample work, complete with two deadly big room breaks.
With a genre that had an enormous build in momentum last year, big room has taken a bit of a backseat as of recently, however the track is a refreshing return to the bulking big beat trend with Drone Flesh’s methodically layered heavy-hitter.
“Get Down” might be the most praiseworthy accomplishment on the whole record, representing the quintessential Drone Flesh sound, while reflecting the artist’s laudable growth and development. The tune is a hair-raising return to electro’s brightest hour as a sliding bass and pounding drum kicks are fused with grimy, robotic synth arrangements.
Drone Flesh covers a lot of ground with this EP release. The Zurich bred producer boldly compiles a collection of genre-hopping selections that all stay true to his haunting, bass-driven sinister sound.
And anyone who might have previously said that the epic complextro is dead, may have spoken before listening to “Sounds From Spectre”. Infectious, contagious, and mesmerizing is just a few of the words you could use to describe the effects of “Do You Can Be”, the closing track on the EP.
Drone Flesh, has given us filthy beats for a while now and he’s just scratching the surface of his full potential on the EP “Potential Paradox”. This 5-track wonder showcases Drone Flesh’s skill as a multiple-sub-genre producer, and combines his unique, glitch-heavy bass with resonating orchestrated synths and clever, well-timed samples, resulting in a more mature but equally heavy collection of dance floor destroyers.
This recording is a journey in and of its own. Powerful production, creativity, and head-thumping bass dominate this EP, and refresh a genre that has been losing credibility to the overwhelming number of new subscribers to the scene. Rest assured, as long as we have talents like Drone Flesh, we will always have top notch bass music. “Potential Paradox” is a must have for all electronic and EDM lovers, and it drops on the 5th of May!
