Elle Casazza: “You”- credibility and catchiness

Hailing from Chicago, Elle Casazza began singing and performing when she was eight years old. After learning how to play the piano and guitar, it wasn’t until college when she started writing her own music. In May 2013, Elle made her recording debut with her EP, “For Your Pleasure”, and followed that up in 2015 with three singles. The end of 2016 saw Casazza release her latest critically acclaimed retro-pop album, entitled “Proof”. The first single to come off the aforementioned album was “Too Bad”, which has now been followed by the love ballad “You”. “Writing ‘You’ was writing a promise to myself,” explained Elle. “After a tumultuous and emotional night, the first verse just poured out of me. It’s not only a love ballad to that someone special in my life, but to myself as well.”

There is no question about it, Elle Casazza and her new release must not slip under the pop radar of 2017. I will be really baffled if it does, as you would think that the music community would embrace a female pop musician that is not just obsessed with her image, but also the quality of the music she delivers, with open arms. Elle once again finds her own sound with this single. And it is such a good sound for pop music you may think that you have heard it before.

Elle Casazza’s lyrics are as sharp, insightful and literate as we can expect from a songwriter of her quality – “You don’t see what I see / You keep coming to me / You take the good with the bad / You’ll stay forever my man.” But this time around she creates in cinema-scope, embracing an unexpected pop sensibility and mixing it up her usually eclectic soundscape, powerful piano lines, and quirky harmonies.

The song shimmers with love, hope and possibility without ever being overbearing. This is almost like a throwback to the 70’s when credibility and catchiness were not mutually exclusive.

This is Elle Casazza untamed. Her always emotive voice roams strongly over the resonating piano soundscape, and has many arresting moments that will take your breath away. This beautiful ode to caring for someone works on all levels.

Elle is soulful, and her lyrics just tug at your heartstrings. When you think she is going to go lower on a note, she goes to a higher one as she finds strength in complex vocal arrangements. Elle Casazza is unpredictable and so pure that she is refreshingly soothing.
