Rohan ft Filip: “It’s Christmas Time” – warm and glowy soul!
I recently read a piece by Francis Schaeffer who was explaining the spirit of Christmas, as he himself had read in some newspaper. The newspaper article concluded that: “It’s in your heart. It feels warm and glowy. You can’t buy it, and you can’t get it from anybody else.” Francis C. Farley went further by writing: “Instead of being a time of unusual behavior, Christmas is perhaps the only time in the year when people can obey their natural impulses and express their true sentiments without feeling self-conscious and, perhaps, foolish. Christmas, in short, is about the only chance a man has to be himself.” I
don’t which one of the above theories you’re more comfortable with but I found the answer to Schaeffer’s discussion. You certainly can get the “warm and glowy” Christmas spirit from an outside source, which you will feel in your heart. It’s all built into “It’s Christmas Time”, a track written by Rohan Reid and sung by professional studio singer Filip.
For those who have it, you could remove the trees, lights, presents, food, and just leave the music of Rohan and the voice of Filip, and their joy would still be intact. That’s because this three and a half minute song is the audio equivalent of a lit fireplace in the dead of winter: it’s warm, comforting and refreshing, as well as being soulful, tender and romantic.
It’s a refreshing R&B and Soul ballad that is such a far cry from the usual nursery rhyme type Christmas standards we’re all so tired of. You’ll play it over and over again. Filip’s vocal renderings and interpretation of this ballad is so rich and so smooth.
Rohan has composed a beautiful organic sounding track that takes two steps away from the simple Christmas carol formula, yet without losing the Christmas consciousness, and injecting it with feelings of nostalgia and sentimental vibes that resonate with a sense of love and affection.
This is a must to add to your collection. Also because “It’s Christmas Time”, is the kind of song that can be played at any time you’re in a mood to chill mood, I think. Though billed as a tune for the Holiday season, it goes beyond.
If you’re regularly into Soul and R&B, you’ll quickly note that it’s really hard to pick up a track this groovy throughout the rest of the year, let alone Christmas. It is sheer quality and from start to finish, the track just flows with the gorgeous music, always soulful, extremely poignant and carries you along with ease from bar one, right through to the end.
With “It’s Christmas Time” songwriter Rohan Reid and singer Filip rip up the Christmas song rule book and release a track which feels warm and glowy, and gets inside your heart. Which brings me to the conclusion that the newspaper article was wrong. You can get the Christmas feeling from someone else, and this Christmas you can get it from Rohan and Filip!
