Jefe Strong shows that lyricism, and authenticity can cut through trends

Jefe Strong originally from Baton Rouge made his way to Dallas in his teen years and has developed a unique sound. He has released over 5 visuals over the past few months, with one of his latest “Trench Gospel” getting posted on the Say Cheese TV Instagram page receiving over 20,000 views and 300 comments on the post.

The visual to “Trench Gospel”, which comes off the EP of the same title – released last November – has been raking up views on YouTube. The track is a shining example of Jefe Strong’s lyrical gift and vivid storytelling, as he comes out with a bar-heavy, head knocker flow. Strong is a perfect example of the modern multi-talented rap artist who hasn’t forgotten the old school genre values.

There are lots of rappers in the game.  In 2021, the number of rap albums and mixtapes seem off the charts. Furthermore, the definition of rap has become blurred, like a number of musical styles these days.  Jefe Strong, is a skilled, hard-nosed rapper through and through.  And on this track he shows he is one to watch without question.

The production work is soulfully malicious, setting up a rich, piano and horn filled backdrop, for Jefe Strong to paint his gritty rhymes on. His best attribute is his honesty and openness, as he tells his story. The artist exhibits a vibrant style, more than highly competent bars, and something that is scarce in hip-hop right now; a talent for storytelling.

Jefe Strong fast flow and well-crafted writing are consistent all the way through this track and he uses this to incorporate as many words as he can into a bar while effectively getting his ideas across. In a hip-hop era where much of the emphasis is put on the sound or vibe of a record, Jefe Strong shows that lyricism, and authenticity can cut through the trend.

If you like a rapper who shows versatility to jump on track, coalesce with the instrumental and go in with hard bars,  while his voice and delivery remain highly memorable, Strong is your guy. No doubt, Hip-Hop fanatics will find something they like about Jefe Strong. Whether it’s the aggressive flows, vivid storytelling, and/or his choice in beats, I’m confident that we will see some great achievements from this emcee in the future.
